Finland eager to boost energy, mining ties with Iran

Addressing a conference entitled ‘introduction to mining cooperation opportunities of Iran and Finland’, Director General Petri Peltonen as Head of the Innovation Department at Finland’s Ministry of Employment and the Economy said he was accompanied by 10 good Finnish companies and research institutes adding “plenty of venues for activity and cooperation exist between Tehran and Helsinki since, geographically speaking, only Russia is situated between the two countries.”

The visiting official highlighted that a small distance existed between the two sides asserting “the present visit aims to bolster mutual understanding with Iran.”

“Finland is not a politically-oriented country and merely seeks to launch constructive partnership with Iran and other states.”

Mr. Peltonen further maintained that his country was after deepening ties with Iranian companies in mining and energy sectors; “both parties are therefore determined to strengthen bilateral relations.”

He pointed to existence of various venues for collaboration between the two countries stating “we are eager to conduct further geological activities in Iran given that one of the world’s best geology organizations is located in Finland.”

The Finnish deputy economy minister underscored that his country enjoyed a distinguished status as regards mining technologies; “companies of Finland are highly active in consulting areas and possess technologies to increase productivity,” he concluded reaffirming that a great number of areas of cooperation were available to both countries.
